Be afraid- very afraid! Let me say that that they have featured on Watchdog - this is rarely a good sign and you will read an undercurrent of "Beware" in this link, which is about Alfa Romeos but is still a warning. Are they members of the Federation of Engine Rebuilders, or whatever the trade body is called?tinyurl.com/3a33xp

I believe that 'Heathrow Engines' is one of the names used by an engine supplier in the Heathrow/Twickenham area.
They also operate the website www.reconditioned-engines.co.uk .
The following quotes are from that website:
"All of our advertised prices are based on the assumption that your existing engine or gearbox is serviceable and can be re-machined by us to use again."
"Once your original engine/gearbox has been removed and dismantled for assessment, a situation may arise where you do not wish to proceed with the fitting of the replacement engine/gearbox. Unfortunately, in these circumstances, we are unable to re-assemble and reinstall your original engine/gearbox. Consequently the dissembled unit, together with all ancillary parts will be placed in the boot of the vehicle. We will charge for the work already carried out in removing and dismantling the unit & for any recovery/delivery costs incurred."

I remember Watchdog on them.
IIRC they are good for promoting fitness in intelligent and well informed motorists.
(They run a mile:-))

Contact the FER for details of a proper reconditioner.

Thanks guys. We already use Ivor Searle for engines & just wondered if they could be a suitable alternative if our usual supplier is out of stock. I guess not!!

A word of caution. In west London close to Heathrow is an engine reconditioner who has been chased by Trading Standards on numerous occasions and by BBC Watchdog. He keeps changing his name, so I cannot comment on this one.
Generally engine conditioners take the engines out of damaged cars and clean up the outside for selling on. You are just as wise to go to a scrap yard and see the car the engine is removed from, it may have been rolled for example. Buy one you can see would not have been damaged and know the mileage, possibly even the service history. Then have it fitted by someone you know and trust.
