Nissan Patrol "chipping" - Claybuster
I've got a friend who tows a fairly heavy Caravan with a 2000(W) 3.0 ltr diesel Nissan Patrol and he is thinking about chipping it to get some more low end grunt, have any of the backroomers got any experience of this type of conversion or similar as well as the pro's/con's of such a move.? Also any names/firms doing such conversions would be appreciated. Patrol is based in the Teesside area.
Thanks in advance.

(these are the only ones who list the patrol)
Search for the model and it shows the increase in power and torque.

You can't gain a great deal with this engine, plus it's a bit weak.

For towing you need big engines, not weeny ones tweaked up, that's why they still offer the Patrol in Australia with the old pushrod 4.2 straight six. The 3.0 is also proving to be much less durable than the old 4.2.

This is taken from their list for a Patrol with a 3.0 DITD.

Power increase from 158bhp to 190bhp and the Torque goes up from 262 lbs/ft to 292 lbs/ft.

The 2.5 and 2.8 are as expected lower.

There's someone down our road with a large caravan. Its been off the drive once in 2 years. At £10,000 per driving experience, I'd put chipping the vehicle low on the list of things to be done, if this usage rate is typical:)
