106 wiper problem - scfc_151

on a 1997 106 1.5d the windscreen wiper works on all functions but when on constant the wiper will stop and start across the screen.

If the wiper stalk is wiggled it may make the wipers continue their sweep, but when they are working the wiggling may also make the wipers stop.

Does this sound like a motor problem or wiper stalk/switch?

I had the exact same problem on a 405.
Basically the switch contacts on the stalk were loose/worn.
Taking the stalk assembly apart and cleaning them up gave me a few months extra life, but in the end I had to buy a new wiper stalk. If wiggling is causing it to stop and start, it is highly likely that it is the stalk and not the motor - when motors go, the speed of the sweep may drop and you may get judder as it struggles to pull the wiper across or it does not do anything at all.
There is also a relay involved, but peugeots are not the best for switchgear durability - so probably the stalk. (I know of a 205, a 206 and my old 405 all had to have steering column switchgear replaced)
