There seems to be a new entry in the menu bar on the left titles Motor Match. Can anyone tell me what this is about?
|
It was mentioned earlier today,
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=51...8
and more recently mentioned in the "New look to forum." thread.
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=51328
There do however appear to be one or two teething troubles with it. Bear with us while it gets sorted.

i like it, it gets my vote. Im forever comparing specs for cars and this is a really convenient way to do it.
Now if it could have more performance info (such as 30-70 figures) id be over the moon.
some people are never happy :)

The Motor match tool lets you make and publish 'grids' like, for example, a fantasy grid of your dream cars:
honestjohn.dealdna.com/grid.cfm?gridkey=5180600c
or a practical grid, perhaps comparing £15k - £20k diesel automatics with a 0-60 of better than 10 seconds:
honestjohn.dealdna.com/grid.cfm?gridkey=10d043e9
( it took two minutes to make that grid.)
So it is a research tool, or good for settling arguments!
At the moment it has 5500 new editions of cars, it will shortly have all car specs going back to 1996.

This is a very clever tool that allows you to search on pretty much any requirement you could possibly think of in a new car. Want to know what Estate cars you can buy for £15k to £25k that weigh over 2 tonnes and have a 0-60 time of sub 7s - this will tell you. Really useful for those in the market for a new car, whether you want to compare editions of particular models or get Motor Match to suggest cars you may not have thought of. Brilliant for proving people wrong in the pub too...

Or even to run a 'what is the ugliest car available' discussion, here is my nomination...
honestjohn.dealdna.com/grid.cfm?gridkey=f5af6d63

When I clicked on the Motor Match link just now, I got the following message:
"The test pilot for Motor Match has now ended if you have any comments or would like more information about this service please contact jerry.kew@arterysolutions.com or lynne.atkin@arterysolutions.com"
Does that mean that it has now gone from the site, or is there a glitch, or is it just me?
|
It was working a few days ago, although the database had some omissions.
I got the same message just now so I guess it was a beta test - I found it very useful, or would have been if the database was up-to-date.

Yes, it's finished. The link will be removed at some point in the near future.

Unless you want to tow a caravan, when some of the important fields are missing. it needs Kerbweight, maximum tow, max nose weight, whether the car has self-levelling suspension.

Kerbweight and maximum towing weight were available.

Agreed. Only two of the four criteria I was trying the search on. The nose weight was particularly important - missing from a surprising amount of manufacturer literature, but so vital for choosing a towcar.
