The engine is likely to cost more than the cars worth ,if you increase the weight and power you will adversly effect the steering ,brakes and handling of the car the gearbox may have to be changed along with the differential.Your insurance will be void unless you inform them and they may not accept it, the car will be non standard and not comply to the MOT regulations .
Why not just buy a different car.If after all that you still wish to do it the most common upgrade was to use a 1600E engine and box .

I would guess it would need to be a 1.6 CVH as the Zetec would need completely different wiring looms, and exhaust systems I would imagine. I think botht he CVH and Zetec used the same gearbox. I know people have put Zetecs in M2 Fiestas.

Personaly I would just buy a new car. You can big up a decent 1.8 Zetec escort which is good for 110bhp for around £500.

skreech ,Ihave a 1.6 escort engine which can be seen and tried ,it was f in laws car which had a little shunt but not worth repairing as he has stopped driving ,cant remember milage but not huge ,its in Aberdeenshire though but if any interest let me know ,it would be at a good price
