I've just bought four Michelin Pilot Primacy 205/65/15 V for £242.48, representing a saving on the price quoted by my normal cheapest supplier (Micheldever) of about £90. There was a 20% discount off the posted prices, which include VAT, balancing, fitting and disposal. Even without the special-offer discount they would have been cheaper by £30 for the lot.

Yes, the discount offer appears to have been extended to 26 November. I didn't get them fitted, because there was a two-hour queue caused by the offer. However, the fitter said I can take them back for free balancing and fitting at any time within two years.

Was it £23 to join? I think so. Under the current discount offer you can buy up to eight tyres. I think you can buy as many as you like outside any temporary special offer such as this.

Don't know the price of 165/65/13. If Michelin do them, they will be there, and they will probably be 20% or more cheaper than you can get them anywhere else, if my case is valid throughout the range percentage wise. Minimum purchase four tyres.

I'm now rather glad I joined, having hesitated for months. Top-notch trolley jack and top-notch tyres, and a cash saving over well over £100.

It's £25 + vat to join for an Individual member ( I think that also includes a spouses card) You can get business memberships, for one person I think it's a little cheaper. You also don't have to have them all fitted at the same time.
If they don't have your size in stock you still get the discount if you order and pay before the 26th.

I am a Costco member and did not know of the offer. I have just rang for a quote and for the Focus 195/60/15V is £53.56, for the Passat 205/60/15V is £54.50, per tyre that is.
The tyres on both cars are about 3 mm, I am very tempted to change the tyres on both of them. These prices are very good, thank you Mr Jones.

Quizman: does the price £53.56 for your focus include the discount?

Yes this price includes the discount, VAT, new valve, balance etc.

Should I replace the tyres with 3mm left on the tread?

Quizman,
Yes I'd change them. I am getting myself new tyres on Monday with around 2.5mm left.
Also just had four new Klebers (same offer as Michelin at ATS) fitted to SWMBO Mazda when old ones reached 3mm.
I noticed a distint lack of grip in the wet with both cars.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.

It's not only tread that matters but age too.

You can see the age from the DOT date on the sidewall: for example, 3201 means that the tyre was manufactured in week 32 of 2001 (beginning 13 August), 2403 means the 24th week of 2003, etc. If anyone has tyres dating before 2000, they really should change them. I think HJ's advice is to treat five years as a maximum; I've seen others say six or seven years, but five's good enough for me and it squares with my experience. Tyres that have been punished and perhaps exposed excessively to sunlight (e.g. car always parked throughout the day with one side facing south and fully exposed to sunlight) may be shot well within that period.

And, as for tread itself, the 1.6mm allowed by the MOT system really is a bare minimum. Those in the know suggest that performance is seriously reduced at 3mm and less.

And then there are cracks -- in the sidewall, where the tread meets the sidwall, and (as in two five-year old Nokians I'm replacing) all the way around the tyre in the tread channels.

It's not worth treating this primary safety component lightly.

I will take the above advice and get 4 tyres this week. The only downside is that I was hoping for Pilot HP's and they have only got Pilot Primacy in my size. Perhaps the discount is to get rid of the older Primacy's.
The car has got the original Michelin Energy tyres, I don't know what to say about them, they seem a bit nothingy, if you know what I mean.
A friend asked me this morning to recommend somewhere to buy some tyres, I told her to go to Costco! Does anyone think that the Honestjohn website should get some commission from Costco for all this free advertising? Perhaps they should sponser the site.

The DOT date on mine is 2906 -- July -- so they are not old. I think I've posted here earlier about taking 14-month-old "new" tyres back to another dealer last month to be swapped, and the new ones are 2306 (early June). 14 months is getting old.

You were looking for 15" sizes - Primacy HP's are not available in any 15" sizes.

For info, Costco do say that they can order in any tyres/sizes made by Michelin if not in stock. ( they have done so twice for me)

They wouldn't get me some tractor tyres a few years ago.
Michelin tyres are the creme de la creme for farmers.
