Renault Clio 1.2 (2003) - billybunter
Hi
Our Clio suffered a flat battery yesterday which has now been re-charged but the car will not now start. The engine turn freely for 1- 3 seconds before starter cuts out (immobilisor i suspect). How do I go about de-activiting this to allow the engine to start - is there a special system or must it go to the dealership for re-programming? Could it be something else. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thank for now.

If the red circular warning light in the centre of the instrument panel illuminates with ignition on & then goes off after a few seconds ,I would think that the immobilser is ok.If the engine only cranks for 1-3 seconds ,I would suspect a battery fault.hth

Sounds most likely that the battery's not accepting charge. New battery will only be about £40.

Did you charge the battery on or off the car? - some cars don't like battery chargers because they can frazzle electrics - a friend of mine had to replace the ECU in his Skoda because a poor-quality battery charger fried it.

The immobiliers in most modern cars are too complex to wire around, so your only option there is a main dealer, or possibly an independant Renault specialist. Cheapest thing first - replace the battery (it's 3 years old, which is within the limits of normal battery life). It'd be a pretty poor design of immobiliser where a flat battery alone could screw everything up.

Hi does it only crank for a short time every time you try it.Clios have a fault which dealers know about but dont tell you.If starter motor cranks for a few seconds every time you try it,unlike a flat battery which will not keep on trying, leave ignition on for two minutes as this sometimes clears fault.
