Basically Honda Accord mechanicals with Rover interior and Rover L-series diesel. The engine is pretty strong, not the most refined you'll ever come across but goes well and is economical. Main problems with 600s are front windows tend to come out of the runners and drop down (this afflicts the Accord the car was based on too), and rust usually appears along the bottom edge of the rear wing behind the wheelarch. Also check for brake judder, check operation of hydraulic clutch (slave cylinders can go and are a PITA to bleed when replacing), check the state of the exhaust (they rust quickly). Parts are readily available from independent places so shouldn't be a problem to keep on the road.

A friend had one as a Taxi did over 200k trouble free miles, he then sold onto another mini cabber who put another80k on it before the gear box broke. He still says it was the best cab he's ever had....... Well he does run a Laguna now!

I used to collect a lot of these for servicing and most had 100k plus miles on them, mostly owned as company cars or taxis, which is a good accolade.
They are an old-style diesel, but that isnt always a bad thing as they go on forever if you dont thrash them.
Prob one of the best Rovers of the 90's as it benefits from lots of Honda bits but with the Rover look.

As long as it has been serviced correctly, id snap it up if its under £1000. If its more than that, id want a full main dealer history. and no rust whatsoever, plus low miles.

One of the best Rovers ever built, probably because it was, as said above, a thinly disguised Honda Accord. And in parts very thinly disguised. Don't expect any refinement from the L Series though, it was criticised for being noisy even at launch and compared to the latest CR engines it's off the radar. But it has its merits, being fast, economical, very reliable and relatively cheap to fix should it go wrong. No CR four figure bills here.
