My 2 litre petrol Mk3 golf has a jerky throttle response. If you back off the throttle then accelerate again it has an annoying jerkiness. Not a problem when driving at a steady speed but noticeable at each gear change. Any ideas?

chippy
Quite a lot of different 2-ltr engines in Mk III Golfs, so only general ideas. Things like plugs; leads; coils; ign amplifiers; inlet air leaks; throttle potentiometers; MAP/MAF sensors; crank/cam/Hall sensors; coolant temp sensors and lots more.
Have any of those been tried? Is it better hot or cold? Anything odd happen before it started doing it? Had the fault-codes read?
As always; exact year and engine code help to narrow things down a lot.
