Transmission for future cars - Miller
I think its about time that all new cars were fitted with the new generation of auto box with manual overide, as fitted to most new exec cars nowadays. You have the convenience of auto for town/traffic and manual for the open road.

I think the thing that keeps people choosing manuals over autos is a reluctance to change. In my opinion 2mpg less and half a second on the 0-60 time is a small price to pay for a much less stressful drive.
Re: Transmission for future cars - T lucas
Any places that have very heavy traffic tend to buy way more autos than manuals now. Also most exec/luxery cars are auto. Its the future in the UK.

In the paper yesterday, Torotrak's stock valuem plunged after GM has decided against its unique new sliding-cone transmission. (Same idea as a CVT, but cone to cone rather than cone to belt to cone.)

I would have thought the Nissan CVT-plus-torque-converter was the ideal, as on the Tino or posher Primera..... anyone out there tried it?
