Mk IV Golf - grahamwiz
help !! Does anyone know if you can adjust the timing on a Mk IV 1.4 golf. Recently had the timing cambelt changed, and the engine sort of chugs on tick over, returned it to the garage and they dont seem able to rectify.

Have the cam timing rechecked they could be a tooth out. Or and it does Happen, they have turned the crank round too far with the belt off and hit an open valve bending it slightly so at tick over the engine is limping. Not so noticeable at speed but the Co will emmisions will be all over the place and you will burn the valve and the seat. Regards Peter

Sounds to me like a tooth is out.
Take it back and tell them to do it properly.
