Just recently the ABS and TC dash lights came on, at the same time the steering went a bit heavy - don't think all power steering was lost, just a little. In addition the speedo stopped working! Obviously electrical as they came back the next day but have gone again once or twice. Fuses are OK, is they a common relay that I should check?

First thing to check is the alternator charging voltage.Too low or too high volts will cause the system to shut down.However,I would expect the engine and/or airbag light to illuminate also if this were the case.What is more likely is a fault in the abs control module which will exhibit all the faults you describe.The unit is attached to the abs pump/modulator assy bolted to the nearside chassis leg,below pas reservoir.It can be bought seperately from GM -about £250 & is very awkward to fit.A new unit will need to be progrmmed for operation.

Sounds nasty & expensive! Can it be tested to check that this is the faulty part before replacement?

Could it just be a slipping belt, ie does the same belt drive the alternator & power steering pump.
