Daylight Robbery - Fullchat
SHMBO's Pegeuot 406 has had the Airbag warning light flashing for sometime now. Having tried all the usual connections etc to no avail I had to bite the bullet and book it in at the local dealer for a tech test.
I was forwarned that the cost for the test alone was £69.33 inc VAT as they charged by the hour.
Now to plug in a computer and have a look at the readout cannot take more than 15 mins, can it?
Anyway duly went to collect the car. " Its your disarming switch. We will have to order one. The total price is £92 something. Shall I book you in sir?"
"Is that including the tech test?"
"No thats on top of the tech test"
"So how much is the switch?"
"£23.. and there is another hours labour"

So thats £161 to diagnose a faulty switch that takes a further 5mins to pull out of the centre console and swop for a new one.

Needless to say I am fitting it myself. But thats not just making a profit thats Robbery!!! ( Not strictly by the definition DVD). Not only that I am paying VAT to the governmet on Robbery!!

Did you ask them how long the test took? I had to have a key for a laguna recoded a while ago, they were trying to charge 1/2 hours labour at over £30, I actually timed it and from when the Tech picked the car up from the forecourt till the time he returned it was les then 4 minutes!!!! I wondered why they did not want to do a while you wait service - needless to say we "agreed" that I would only pay £12 in the end (or there abouts), you really have to watch these dealers, most are criminals (imho).
Daylight Robbery - Citroënian {P}
Outside local Vauxhall dealer near my work the boss has his new Bentley Continental Flying Spur parked there most days. Not all the time though, sometimes he brings his new Bentley Continental GT. Goodness knows what else he's got parked up at home. Poor chap, must be absolute murder trying to make ends meet servicing Corsas and Merivas. Eh? Oh.

dealerships make a lot on parts and servicing which is why breakers yards make a healthy profit, but take a car without a computer to them, an actual mechanical car and they would be stumped to solve it's problem my friend works for Dixon motors in the north he broke down (a faulty ballast ) and not one of the staff from peugeot, rover, vauxhall, citreon who would be happy to service your 05 motor could diagnose the fault.

mine Ford charge £45 per hour but I found a part for less than £2 which covers my diagnostic plug, a small piece of trim

And yet, when I had a prob with my car that needed the computer plugging in, my local independent did just that for nowt (faulty front wheel ABS sensor). Diagnosed the fault, booked it in, no charge for the computer diagnosis.
By the way, he's a Citroen/Peugeot specialist.
