407 SW, Yaris Verso, new C5, most cars in "Subaru" blue.
407 SW? What are you talking about? I bet you like stone wall cladding...
I could easily say Renault Thalia or Dacia Logan but I?ve found a new bee for my bonnet. Our magazine tested a Landwind this week. Don?t know if that?s the make or the model but it?s Chinese and it?s a really poor copy of the Frontera. It?s boxy, it?s ugly, it has Grand Canyon shutlines,, it sags under its own weight, it?s lower half is clad in cheap plastic, it has a 1970s dash, it fairs so badly in crash tests that it kills the driver at 50kph but worse than any of that it smells like some Chinese worker left his slippers in there while they were shipping it. You can?t drive it with the window closed. It?s the exact Polar opposite of everything that makes a 21st century car cool, stylish and chic.

Oy - My Subaru is in Subaru Blue and it looks great. Come here and say that again.....

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Any new BMW.
BMW 5 series & Fiat Doblo (not often mentioned in same breath!)
Honourable mention to Chevrolet Tacuma, Pug 407 SW (sorry BBD) & Renault Megane Hatch.
Don't agree about Yaris Verso. Not beautiful, certainly - but kinda cute.
>>407 SW? What are you talking about? I bet you like stone wall cladding... >>
Nope, though I like the Bangle BMW's (but for the 6), I also like the Megane hatch, the Yaris Verso is not cute, a Modus is cute.
The 407 SW just completly misses the mark for me, along with the 607 I reckon I would be almost embarrased to drive one ( I had a hire 607 that was so so antiseptic in character), the 407 saloon is a little better looking from the rear.
Seat Toledo - what a disappointment. Strangely enough, in spite of the similar design cues, the new Leon is much more attractive in real life than the pictures led me to believe.
I actually like most of the current BMW designs, but the new 3 Series is fugly.

Let me see in reverse order
3 The NIsaan primera
2 Primera by Nissan
1 Primera
Its a pity no animals were killed in its design or manufacture, I would love to have Animal rights people firebomb them
Primera yes, 407 no.
The 407 has to be the nicest looking estate bar the 5 series and one of the nicest looking "normal" saloons.
If it was a little more sporty, I'd consider one.
Although I realise that's hardly a glowing recommendation in the looks department coming from me.
What else? The Thalia. Never seen one in the flesh but when Dave posted that picture. Well.
Also, the monstrosity they call the Fabia saloon. I'd sooner have a UAZ.
I think that's about it.
Actually - no. Not "ugly" as such but very boring. The new Focus hatch, the new Focus estate with it's Fiesta tail lights and the new Focus saloon which looks criminally similar to some new Skoda and some new Volvo.
Plus what Andy said. The new 3. The front looks so promising but the back looks like Hyundai or someone have had a say in how it looks.
I like the whole BMW family except for the 1 series. It?s so ugly I bet it quacks.
Yeah the 1 isn't too nice either.
Everything else though, spot on.

The Focus hatch is a bit consevative though the new ST version looks great, I think the estate and particularly the saloon look really classy, no surprise that they look like Volvo's, the S40 and V50 are basically the same car.
Exactly Cheddar. I want a car that looks different. I'd much rather have the S50 which I'm sure is a better built car with I'm guessing, a turbo option than a Ford that looked like it.
Let's keep on subject. You want a thread on "most boring car on the market"? Start one. Boring is quite different from ugly.
You could argue they go hand in glove.
How many gorgeous cars are described as boring? Exactly.
And Cheddar, I agree with you there.
You could argue they go hand in glove.
Aye, I'm sure you could.
How many gorgeous cars are described as boring? Exactly.
Come, come Adam. You are getting your logical categories confused. The opposite of "boring" is "interesting". And we are all agreed that the 407 SW is not boring. Some think that it is interesting. Others think it is, . . . er, . . . interesting.
No evidence to suggest that the Volvo is better built that the new Focus, to the contrary Ford have been doing better than Volvo in relaibility and satisfaction surveys recently. Also I prefer the look of the Focus saloon to that of the S40, shame that there is not an ST Focus saloon with the Volvo 2.5 litre 5cyl turbo engine, why not?, perhaps because it would have the legs on an ST220.

The Focus saloon is some new Volvo. As I understand it the new Focus and the S40 are the same car, much in the same way a Fabia and a Polo are. Or a Cayenne and a Toerag. Or a Saab 93 and a '93 Vauxhall Cavalier. Well, you get the idea.

Any new Ford Focus - possibly well engineered, but let's not bother with any exterior design flare at all. Lots of ungainly bits that look like they were designed for different Ford cars.
Porsche Cayenne: back end looks like an American housewife bending down in Sam's at the lo-fat food section........
Ugliest car? Without doubt it's a dead heat between the Porsche Cayenne and that new Ssangyong MPV thingy. I would walk before being seen in one of those. Either are so offensive they should be banned for frightening young children.
Thankyou! The first person to talk sense in this thread.
How can you be arguing over the 407 and the 5 series when Ssangyong are happily selling (or trying to sell) the Rodius? It's so ugly it should be against the law. It makes the mk1 Fiat Multipla look like a DB9. It's the ugliest thing I've ever seen SNIP - Comments regarding welsh people removed. DD.

Ssangyong Rodius or Fiat Doblo? Hmmmm

"It's the ugliest thing I've ever seen (and I went to a welsh comprehensive school)."
Made me laugh!!

virtually every bmw (since around the 90's), vauxhall's fridge-freezer oh sorry ...vectra... it's something to do with that stupid chrome fridge-freezer trim... why? white vw polo's look awfull too but they dont look so bad in other colours. ford foci. ...cheers...keo.

The BMW 1 series is a real swamp donkey, utterly repulsive. It comes with a PG 16 certificate. But it seems to sell.
The latest Morgan is foul with no sense of proportion. Designed by an amateur and it shows.

The Vectra's not ugly per se, just odd. it could look quite good and they have spoilt it with the stupid grille and cheap lights.
Worst still, the Signum is supposed to be Vectra plus, but has the same horrible cheap front.
Nissan Micra - the only car ever shaped like a telephone (as someone once said). Come to think of it, those new Citroen C1s or Aygos or whatever they're called run it a pretty close second. You'd think the French would steer well clear of the wide-mouth frog look...
Alfa Romeo GTV and Spider - They might share a pretty face but from the front wheels back their dumpy styling is emphasised by that pointless diagonal crease. Something about the Spider reminds me of the Triumph TR7.
For different reasons I would also nominate the Bristol Blenheim luxury tourer. It seems the manufacturers have given up on styling altogether. It's such an anonymous looking design, clumsily updated over the years - the latest version looks like a Mark 2 Ford Escort with a greatly extended bonnet.
However, Bristol's new 'Fighter' contender for the 200mph+ club looks OK in a wierd sort of way.
Cheers, SS

I guess I am one of the few that have seen it and its mates in the metal at the above only showroom.

The Peugeot 206 Estate (or SW to give it its proper title).
Ugly sums it up well, but awkward is better.
I'm with Growler - Porsche Cayenne
It looks like it was designed with an ugly stick
-- Lee .. A festivus for the rest of us.
Audi A3, A4 and A6 with that ultra ugly droopy front grille.
Corporate vandalism.
Thanks all for your contributions - personally I think it's a straight fight beteen the Cayenne and the 1 series, with the Cayenne winning, by a length or two, because it costs so much more, and you just know that it's never going off-road. In fact, I think it's not just the ugliest, but the most crass vehicle development idea that any automotive manufacturer may have had, ever!
What about the Hummer SUT?
I nominate the Modus. The back end looks like Marty Feldman! Oh, and the 1-series BMW, out of proportion and stubby. The new 3-series is also pretty plain (not actually ugly). I have to say, the new 5 is growing on me, the only one that I think works with the Banglisation. The 7 is ruined by the stuck on boot.
On another matter (already mentioned), I was lucky enough to have a go in a 2 litre diesel new shape Leon recently, and not only is it lovely to look at but went like stink too!
Alex.

I quite like the Cayenne actually.
I'll get my coat.

I actually like the new Audi range - very impressive in a rear view mirror.
And I think the Primera is not bad- does not look ugly to me.
Now a Renault Megane...............
I've got my coat on already.

all the latest BMW'S,especially the 1 series
I'd agree with many contenders listed so far, but my pet hate must surely be... ta-dah......
The Chrysler PT Cruiser
About as stylish as an American in shorts, sandals and socks (all beige, naturally).
How about a Mondeo TDCI?
madf
The previous generation Mondeo, the one that looked like squashed patisson with Toys'R'us inspired fascia was quite an ugly car.
All new Peugeots with grills that look like drunk yob grinning his puffy, teethless mug to a pint of beer.
Honda Jazz with its froggy headlamps and whale shaped body.
Pre-facelifted C5, new C6.
Can I nominate another ugly?
The Hyundai coupe - a very unhappy attempt to apply exotic supercar styling to a a car with totally non-supercar proportions!
Cheers, SS
I mean the version of the Hyundai Coupe that has just been superceded, not the latest version.
Cheers, SS

I forgot about the 1 Series. It just shows how gullible people are to buy anything with a BMW badge on. I always liked that advert I saw once with a BMW badge on a dog turd. Sums the 1 series up really.
Thought we'd get there in the end.
3 series or 5 series? Nah, got to be the touring BMWs. Especially seen from behind. Is there anything worse on the road?
Re the Cayenne:
It's ugly but there are uglier cars about. What I find strange is that while the Cayenne and the VW Touareg share some of the same panelwork, the Touareg is, to my mind, one of the best looking 4x4's while the Cayenne is one of the worst!
Cheers, SS
Can I nominate that covertable lexus thing.
It amazes me to think that anybody with the wit to earn good money would buy one of those, and drive it on the pubic highway, and think they look good doing it!
P.S. another vote for the 1 series BMW
I'd agree with this suggestion - they look even worse when owner has gone to town on the options list and the car is covered in nasty chrome stick on bits.
The 'convertible Lexus thing' - the ultimate road hamster.
Yep the SC430 is an automotive munter!
I'd agree with many contenders listed so far, but my pet hate must surely be... ta-dah...... The Chrysler PT Cruiser About as stylish as an American in shorts, sandals and socks (all beige, naturally).
EeeeRRR Ahem cough
Thats a FAT American in shorts, sandals, socks and a Hawaian shirt.
Having seen the new Autocar, must also mention the Mercedes B type. Silly ugly large hatch back at an enormous price.
People do not want the Vauxhall Signum and will not want the Mercedes. I believe there is an even more ludicrous giant Mercedes hatch back the R type? on its way.
Why?.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.
A look through some recent motor magazines will confirm that, if the concept cars being shown at present are anything to go by, we're in for some truly hideous new cars cars over the next few years.
Some nice ones too - Ford's Iosis looks good but its ridiculous semi gullwing doors illustrate perfectly the reason why cars tend to have doors that swing open horizontally!.
Cheers, SS
Ugliest car? Any of the current crop of BMWs. I reckon that the 5-series is the worst, cos its disjointed lines hurt the eyes. The other BMWs (esp the 1-series) are just ugly, without hurting.
Are we restricting this to cars sold in the UK? If not the Toyota FJ Cruiser due to be launched in the US in '06 looks pretty hideous.
If US cars are allowed, it has to be the Pontiac Aztek which looks like an extra from the set of Mad Max ca. 1980. Astonishingly ugly inside and out and GM can only shift them by offering monstrous discounts. Or the Toyota Echo, which looks like a larger Yaris saloon.
On the other hand, whilst in Mexico, I saw saloon versions of both the Renault Clio and (worst of all) the Ford Fiesta. Both unbelievably ugly.
"I saw saloon versions of both the Renault Clio and (worst of all) the Ford Fiesta. Both unbelievably ugly"
The saloon version of the Renault Clio is in fact that babe magnet the Renault Thalia, champion of the poor people. My uncle-in-law wants to replace his ageing Skoda with one. Time to re-marry.
