Puma: wheel bearing or tyre noise?

Puma: wheel bearing or tyre noise? - Archie
Got a noise just like a worn rear wheel bearing from the Puma. Having had a similar noise on another car turn out to be the tyres I wonder if anyone has experienced this as well on a Puma or Fiesta. The wheels are dead quiet when spun by hand with no discernible play. The rear tyres have some 5mm of tread left so I'm reluctant to junk them as a first step. Mind you they're made by Patriot, which I can't trace so they will be changed for Michelins from Costco before the end of the year.

if you have a tread depth gauge,check that the tyres have worn evenly around the entire tyre diameter.I have experienced this problem twice with cheap tyre having worn out of round.

Me too, but with Avons which weren't especially cheap.

Talked to Costco and they are not doing discount on Michelin tyres in Autumn, though there are other discounts available. The next discount on tyres will be in Spring.
