Scratched glass - sajid
i got on my astra 4 faint scratches the type that the wipers leave anyone know how to ge rid of them, i tried cleaning the windscreen still the scratches remain

would it pass the mot?

IIRC a scratch is not MOT failure.Crack in screen within visible area that is above 10mm in circumference is.less and it will pass.Not checked lately so may be wrong?

Scratches
Scratches on the Windscreen, ie light surface scratching, are not to be considered as damage. However, an area of concentrated scratching such as caused by the prolonged use of a defective wiper blade which obscures vision is to be considered a reason for rejection if it meets the fail criteria.


Previous posts have suggested that brasso or jewellers rouge is good at getting rid of scratches in glass.

You can have a car glass company come and polish them out,it might cost around £40 though.

There is a thread around on the site somewhere that I initiated with the same problem, mine was scratches caused by a chipped ice scraper, and the marks were very obvious in sunlight.

I got rid of them with toothpaste and lots of elbow grease; a lot more of the latter! Just use a standard domestic soft cloth.

Had similar problem and used metal polish and cloth, this removed the faint scratches although deeper ones remained. My car recently passed the MOT with these scratches however they are not directly in the driver's eyeline and so were ok or possibly I was lucky and the examiner missed them.
Suggest you check MOT website which gives criteria for test including damage to windscreens.
