"on a little something for myself"
Like a trip to the chiropractor to loosen her neck?
Using her defence I can park on double yellows with impunity, after all the lines are below my line of sight (and beneath the car) and the signs above (I'm 5'6").
This country, always someone else to blame....
|
Yes, but at 20 feet up the wall, the signs weren't positioned to be conspicuous. Good on her.
|
I agree with you, afm.
IMHO it doesn't really matter whether she is 5'2" or 6', a sign 20' up a wall is hardly obvious and is designed to be missed. I would be interested to know how many cars they clamp a week, must be a nice little earner at £90+ a go. No wonder bank profits are climbing!
I have actually come across a company that tried to clamp me while I was working in their building, they pointed out that there was a sign on the wall stating car park was for 'employees only, blah, blah, blah, clamp.' I then pointed out that what was the point of a sign on the wall when the open gate covered it up and that if they wanted the kit I was fitting best they treat me as a temp for the day! Van remained clampless!

Just a quicky...
Many will not appreciate that since last week clampers and persons managing/operating have to be Licensed under Private Security Industry Act 2001 when operating on private land. Offence not to be so.
In addition to sigfn display then if faced with one, have they a Licence???

To be honest, I reckon you could use her defence for the high-up clamping signs too...
ahem. I'll just go find another forum to frequent...

She'd had mounted a sustained campaign to get a refund. I thought the bank had decided to refund her money because of bad publicity & to get rid of her. I'd doubt she'd have got a refund from most of the clamping contractors.
In the Telegraph this week was a case in West London where an 80+ year old's car had been stolen and abandoned on private property from where it was towed to a "clamping contractor's" pound. They'd demanded £350 from him to release it. He couldn't afford it. He's now in a nursing home and his house is being sold, the stress probably having contributed to his decline.

Does that apply to all private clamping of vehicles on private land including by the owners of theland?
How do you find out if somebody has no licence? (On the basis that if you are unable to substantiate this point, then the legislation is pointless!)
|
No license - CRIMINAL offence.
Call the police.
They don't catch burglars but should be able to catch this lot...

Well, they may not be burglars, but I've always considered then thieves.

Shouldn't his insurance cover this?

But as I asked earlier, 'How do you find out if somebody has no licence? (On the basis that if you are unable to substantiate this point, then the legislation is pointless!)'

Alright Mapmaker just for your.
If involved with one of these, as stated ask to see Licence. If refused or non then call the Police. Offence committed.
