vx omega cd code - phild

Hi all.
Firstly thanks to you all for some great info and feedback.
I have a 1999 omega 2.5 v6 cdx estate.
Recently I had to change the battery and once i had coded the radio I found that I couldnt code the cd changer.I have a Philips CCRT 700 with built in mobile phone.
I followed the handbook instructions,ie switch on ign,hold cd button,switch on radio,wait 3-5 seconds,then enter the code.
The display goes from "cd-safe" to "cd-code" but doesnt go to the screen where you enter the code.
I have tried several combinations, including holding the cd button for up to 15 minutes!I have spoken to my local dealer who said that the procedure is correct.Yeh well it maybe but it still dont work lol.
Is there someone who can help? The kids miss their fireman sam cd. NOT!

Are you sure he maunual said to hold in the cd button? Generally with Vauxhall stereos you have to hold in the AS button and then switch on the stereo to be able to enter the code.

The manual says to hold in AS button to enter radio code, but it then says to hold in CD button to code the CD player.

Ah, sorry, misread your earlier post.

I have downloaded similar vx radio manuals and they all have the same general procedure for coding the CD,ie hold the CD button.

Oh dear, what you're doing works for me, so something is amiss.
Try disconnecting the power again, in case it jittered upon reconnection, can't think of much else, does the magazine still insert/eject?

The magazine still powers out and in and can be heard shuffling the CDs on insertion

Just a thought - on my 306's radio the word "CODE" is actually the prompt to enter the code number, and it disappears as soon as you start entering the number.

No sorry Ian,you have to wait 3-5 seconds after "CD Code" then it changes to - - - - for the code to be entered.
I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the power supply and trying again, but no good.
I guess its a trip to an auto electrician.
Thanks to everyone anyway.

Hopefully not a silly quewstion, but you're not entering the same radio code for the cd code by chance? On my Vecra which has the separate cd player in the glovebox, I have one code for the radio, and aonther for the cd player.

No there are separate codes but i dont have the flashing- - - - when coding the CD.

After disconnecting the battery on my 3ltr V6 Elite, i've no radio now, as i've no code. I've looked in the manuals and all the radio codes in there don't work. And as for the CD-Changer code, I didn't know you needed one. Mine's in the boot. It's part of the Bose system.

So, the question is, is there any way of sorting the code out yourself, or is it a specialist job? I know all about Electrical shops, and dealers. Just i'm busy at work and also i'm going away in 2 weeks, so it's finding the time. Will the old freezer trick do it etc?

Cheers.

No, and no. Only the dealer will give you the code. The freezer trick is an old wives tale. All that will happen is that when you remove it from the freezer is that all the components will condensate up and be saturated in moisture, making them more useless than the stereo currently is.

btw, there are only a certain number of attempts at entering the code before the stereo dies permanently. 10 wrong attempts, IIRC.

Further to my problems with the CD code. I took the CD player to a auto electrician who said that the CD was in Safe mode(too many wrong attempts).15 minutes and £20 later it was good as new.

Hi Phild. Can you pass me the contact number for your auto electrician who fixed your CD SAFE problem? Did he reset the box or just wait the required time to key in the code?

I have the same problem with my Vectra. Keyed the radio code too many times (about 4) before realising that it needed a CD code which was a different number! I have found the CD code but it's stuck on CD SAFE and I can't just leave it with the ign switched on for as many hours as it takes. I have had it on for a 90 minute journey and it never let me in. I need someone to reset the box for me. I've tried my local dealer and even Vauxhall, but the are ao no help.

When I bought my Omega with no codes the local Vx dealer got the whole set for me with evidence of ownership and about £10 IIRC.
