Indicator probs. Escort. - samsdodgybloke
Since fitting focus style front indicators to the bumper of our escort they wont flash at the correct rate.....all bulbs are flashing but too quickly....unless on hazards when they flash correctly. Any ideas pls?

The flashing used to be operated via a thermal device (and often still does) and your 'fault' fits in with this exactly.

With the thermal device the lamp current heats something up (bi-metalic strip, for instance) that moves and breaks a contact. It then cools and re-makes the contact. Hence the flashing.

If you increase the lamp power (the current) it will open and flash more quickly.

Your options are:

1) Reduce the lamp power (as an experiment remove one of the bulbs and you should find what I say is true).

2) Buy a device suited to your increased power.

3) Use a relay to work one or more of the lamps so that the current for that lamp does not flow through the thermal device -- messy as it loses you the change in ticker rate that indicates a bulb has gone. But useful for adding a trailer one where you should include its own indicator.

Cheers m8. The problem was that I wired Focus style side repeaters as main indicators and on that loom. Cure? Wire them to the side repeaters, re-wire 'big bulb' indicators in and hide bulbs in inner wing..........basically what you said was right!!!! Dan & Sam

Check the pics on my site if you get time....

Why did you not just fit the proper Escort indicators in the first place?
