audi A4 immobiliser - harrier

I have an N reg 1.8 Audi Avant. Every few months the immobiliser cuts in seconds after starting the car. Taking the key out a few times or turning the key around does the trick. This happens for a few days and then things are fine again for another few months. What's happening? Is the electrcoinc code between the key and the immobiliser changing at regular intervals and does it take time for the two to get matched again?

I've heard of this before - in this case it related to increased resistance of a wire somewhere in the immobiliser circuit. Your local Audi place will probably have heard of a few cases where this has happened.
