My Leon counts down towards its next service from 2000 miles - displays "service X miles" when I turn the electrics on, then removes it once I switch on the engine. For the most recent service I took it to my trusted local mechanic. Only thing is, after the service has been done the warning still comes up. To try & find out how to reset this without resorting to paying for the privilege, I searched the tech forum and found this about a VW (Passat?):
"depress the trip counter reset button and turn on the ignition to position 2, keeping the trip counter reset button depressed for at least 3 seconds"

Given that these are both VAG cars, can anyone confirm if this procedure also works for the Leon?

It should do - it works for the Sharan and Alhambra (and Ford Galaxy, which is really a VW in drag).

The method mentioned doesn't work on my 2001 Passat but the following does:
1)Press and hold down the trip meter button with your right hand
2)Still holding the trip meter button down turn the ignition on with your left hand
3)Still holding the trip meter button down turn the clock resetting button to the right with your left hand. If the Leon's clock isn't reset by this method then you will need to press or turn the knob that sets the minutes.
You will also have to reset the clock afterwards.

Failing that a specialist service reset tool (Sykes Pickavant) can be used to rest the display.

The dealer forgot to re-set the service indicator on my new shape Ibiza recently and when I took it back for something else he showed me how to do it myself.
I think that it was as you describe, if that doesn't work try doing all of the above and then turning the button to the right.

Same here Matt. Dealer forgot to reset service indicator on my Ibiza. Hold down trip button, switch on ignition, wait a few seconds until display warning disappears..... job done.

Tried Alan's method first, which only made the word "service" stop blinking and stay on for a moment then disappear, only to start blinking again when I actually turned the engine on. However, bertj's method worked - although the trip meter button and the clock resetting button are one and the same, I pressed in the button, turned the electrics (but not the engine) on, then while still pressing the button in, turned it to the right & let go. Job done - ta very much to all who replied!

I also had this on the new-shape Ibiza I used to own, where the dealer reset the "Oil" service indicator but not the "Inspection" service indicator, which came on 4,000 miles later. They then told me it would need another service and, not knowing any better, I believed them. Of course, this turned out to be a load of rubbish and after a brief exchange of fairly pointed correspondence they refunded my money....
Definitely something to watch out for.

I have a 1999 VW Bora (2000 year spec) - I follow the Haynes manual guidance.
This states that after a service, VW technicians use a special instrument to reset the service display, but owners can do it mnually by switching off the ignition and then pressing and holding down the speedometer\'s trip reset button. Switch on the ignition and release the reset button and note that the relevant service will appear in the display.
Turn the digital clock reset knob clockwise and the display will return to normal. Switch off the ignition to complete the resetting procedure.
For models manufactured from model year 2000 using the \"variable\" interval, the procedure will automatically reset the display to a \"distance\" interval such as 10,000 miles or 15,000 km.
To have the display reset to the variable (LongLife) interval, it must be done by a VW dealer using a special instrument to encode the on-board computer.
On models manufactured from 2000, owners can choose between the two servicing parameters - either the distance or variable intervals.
All very complicated but simple enough in practice.

I\'ve tried all the above suggestions on my 2002 Passat 1.9TDI.
I\'ve just taken the car to my local garage to get the service and brakes done, but can\'t reset the Service now warning on the dash. Does any body know how I can do this without resorting to the main dealer. Thanks in advance.
