Passat squeeking suspension - dieselnut
My sons 98 Passat Tdi has just developed a loud squeek from the near side font suspension.
It squeeks with the slightest movement of suspension or turn of the steering wheel.
I was amazed how complicated the front suspension setup was on this car with umpteen balljoints & rubber bushes, which makes identifying the source rather difficult.
It seems to be coming from one of the lower ball joints.
Has anyone else had a similar problem & a resolve.?

Audi A4 had same problem Audi gave 50% of repair cost. It's a well known design fault.

How many miles? happens after 75k ish.. and both sides go usually within 6 months of each other.
Repair cost £250 per side.. Audi gave me half.

Now you know why I'll never buy another Audi again or a VW..

Thanks madf, i'm starting to come to that conclusion myself.
My sons previous Golf was nothing but niggling faults.
New outer CV joint, wheel bearing, rear suspension bushes, leaking damper, noisey starter motor - all in 15k miles.
Now we seem to have started all over again with the Passat.
He bought into the VW name in search of reliability but it seems to be just an overpriced myth.

Yes - suspension arms, 2 per side, either squeak or more usually knock. Had to replace mine between 100k and 130k miles. An independant specialist is cheaper than a dealer...
