Nothing in life is certain except:

1. One day you will die.
2. You will pay tax.
3. Your DPF will eventually become blocked to the point it needs replacing.

In the meantime try to avoid using your car for short trips as much as possible, and at the same time use the motorway as much as you can to extend the service life of the DPF.

Otherwise just enjoy using your car and cross each bridge as you come to it.

I have a hyundai i40 diesel, using it for alot of short runs that diesels don't like doing! as a taxI. My last one I ran to 120k with no probs with the DPF. Currently on 70k on my second with no probs and my friend also a taxi driver has 186k on his i40 and never had any problems.

They key we are finding to keeping the DPF happy is to use the higher grade diesels, BP ultimate, shell v power etc. Also gives better MPG!

Ciaran - good to hear that kind of report.

Regular short runs probably means that the engine is always hot though rather than a few runs from cold every day- does that make a difference?

Do you use a low-ash oil?

Thanks
