Volkswagon Golf Match FSI 115 - Scratched and dented door quote - timekeeper

Hi,

I recently hit someones car, did the right thing and left my details. Scratched the paint work and apprently dented to door. The quote they have come back with for the damage is over £1000 and when I quiried this they said that on a Golf there's a protection bar through the middle of the door so they can't get around the back to beat it out. Does anyone know if this is true? Just seems a lot for slight damage.
