Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 - 2003 - Sounds like a bearing has gone, but isn't? - Tanfies2
I don't think it's a bearing, I've had all 4 changed recently, but when the car gets to around 80mph, a whiring grumbling type noise kicks in, just like a noisy bearing sounds. Thing is, you can't drive through this noise, it gets worse more with more acceleration and then decreases without. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

It could be the tyres themselves. Tread wear indicators will induce a humming noise similar to a failing bearing.

One possibility is weak engine/gearbox mountings and CV joints/driveshafts hitting bodywork at speed.

Funnily enough, 2 of the above mentioned are issues with my Fiesta right now ( alternator & CV joint ).

My alternator is very whiney, screechy at present, mainly when the car is ticking over. It’s more noticeable when things like the lights are turned on, and you put pressure on the electric windows. The other day, I noticed the interior light flickering?

There was once a clicking noise coming from the front left of my car when breaking from 30Mph down, bit like spring being twanged. My mechanic said this is CV joint related, but it’s gone away recently when having other work done.

Maybe stay within the UK speed limit?
