Selling 'unique' DMW'. - bathtub tom
I've been asked to sell this motorbike and I'm looking for advice please about the best way to approach it.

It’s registered as a DMW and the square section frame would suggest that it started out as one.
The back end has been modified to support a Royal Enfield swinging arm and wheel. It’s thought the frame may have originally had a solid or plunger rear end. It’s got two rear sprockets bolted together, but I can’t see the point as it would be impossible to run a chain on the smaller due to it being against the larger.
The front also has Royal Enfield forks and wheel.
The engine’s a pre ’63 Tiger cub unit, although the carb's a 1930s Amal.
The petrol tank’s probably also from an Enfield, but it’s been cut and welded and a separate oil tank formed at the back end. Most DMWs were 2-stroke if I recall correctly.
There’s a natty little chain oiler using one of the rear frame sections.
The registration is, I believe, Carlisle, although I was told it came from Newcastle.
Someone’s obviously spent a tremendous amount of time and effort in putting it together and I’m wondering if it’s got an interesting history. The engine runs and seems healthy. Oil flows. I've ridden it, although it seems to have carburation problems.

I'm wondering if any value's in the engine and the rest's scrap?

I'm not very knowledgable on classic bikes (I ride a 2003 ZX9R), but this looks to be far from a scrapper. There is a very bouyant market in classic bikes at the moment and particular interest in custom machines and "flat trackers".

To get an idea of the value I would go to a classic, custom bike or flat tracker forum and ask for advice. There are heaps of people building machines like this and you'll get plenty of help from people who know this sort of machine.

try : thebikeshed.cc/ or www.classicbikeforum.co.uk/

I have no interest or involvement in either site, just illustrating where you might find knowledgable enthusiasts who could help advise on value or best way to sell.

Thanks for those links, I'd found some other forums, but not them.

Interesting bike! As mentioned already, someone's gone to a lot of effort to build their own trials iron there, presumably in the late 50s / early 60s when you couldn't easily buy a specialised machine.

There is a specialist magazine for older trials and 'scrambles' bikes (or Moto-X as they are now known): www.classicdirtbike.co.uk/

I believe they do free classified advertising (not 100% certain on this) so could be worth a look.
