The pas pump should only run with ignition on or engine running. If it is running with key out, then it is possible that the ignition by-pass has not been done correctly.

When the ignition is switched on the charging lamp is on. This is because one side of the lamp has a 12v supply, and the other side goes to earth via the D+ terminal on the alternator. When the engine is started and the alternator begins to work the D+ terminal also has a 12v supply fed from the voltage regulator which is inside the alternator. This now means that there is a 12v supply on both sides of the charging lamp. Equal voltage on both sides means the lamp goes off.

If yours is coming on then it means that the wire that connects to the D+ terminal is being grounded to earth either inside the alternator or somewhere in the wiring loom.

First check to ensure you have a good engine earth. Disconnect the wire on the D+ terminal and connect a test lamp from a 12v ignition supply to the D+ terminal on the alternator. The test lamp will now be acting as the charging lamp. Start the engine and observe the test lamp. The lamp should be off all the time the engine is running. If it comes on at any time you should suspect a faulty alternator.

Connect a digital voltmeter across the battery with the engine running and alternator light off, should read approx 14.3 volts. 14.3 volts means the alternator is charging OK.

Do the same when the light comes on, is the voltage lower?

Bad earth perhaps? Some hidden ones tend to get overlooked.

Does anyone know what each relay does in fuse box please?
