Citroen C Crosser 2.2 HDi - Cost of parts - guygamps

Hi, Car has cut out and lost power on motorway twice in a 2 months, Citroen diagnose the fuel filter as the problem, and are quoting £162 + VAT for the part.

Is that a reasonable price for a filter?

Just phoned them back, my error (apologies to the forum) the price is includign VAT and including fitting - seems OK to me now -

Seems a scandalous price to me even with fitting.

Some Pug Diesels have electric heaters alongside the fuel filter, you can buy the filter on its own and just swap the heater over, but i understand they like to sell the whole caboodle if they can.

Might be worth checking of this is the case on the Crosser.

I would agree, the average standard fuel filter is about a tenner and unless they are something special they are not difficult to fit.

I've checked on Citroen's parts database, the filter is £81.74 including VAT.

I can't speak for Citroen dealers but Peugeot generally charge £80+VAT labour. Some dealers do bill in half hour intervals though.

Before you spend though, how old is the car, what mileage and has the filter ever been changed?

And have they performed a diagnostic? If so, what were the fault codes and live data readings of fuel flow?

Eurocarparts will be cheaper for the part.

Yeah, there's a Mann filter on there for around £40.

Its not a paper based filter that sits in a bowl, its a complete module.
