Is there any (realistic) way to contact HA about roadworks?

I'd like to know what they're playing at on the A1(M) between Durham and Chester-le-Street as they have 3 miles of 'contraflow' which is causing problems all the time. They obviously not doing any work whatsoever (the roadworks are a mess, aren't being maintained and are covered in debris etc)

I've never seen anyone working there in the last month (at any time of day or night, and neither have my colleagues) so it looks like they've abandoned them.

Do you honestly think anyone would be bothered especially this time of year.

Why not ask your local paper, local radio or even the MP (if they are still sober).

Plenty of my fellow commuters are 'bothered' and if enough complain to the HA we might actually see some action, rather than just letting the lazy so and so's add to the misery.

It's even worse as you exit the A1 into Newcastle/Gateshead.

If they don't use their budget apparently, they don't get a decent sum the next year. No idea if this is true but it would make sense.

Look at http://www.northyorks.gov.uk/article/25124/Roads---roadworks

and enable the interactive roadworks map.

You can click on each of the roadworks symbols and get who is responsible for certain works and get contact information

That site is useful thanks, but doesn't show any roadworks where this lot are.

Perhaps is it just a budget disposal job - there is literally no work being done there and the A1 is such a mess around thie Newcastle area (and all the way to Alnwick!) that its a really stupid idea to do this.

Why don't you ring the cones hotline?

The cones hotline (the subject of almost universal ridicule) was closed in 1995.

Or perhaps Quizman is being ironic.

There should be a Highways Agency Information Line (HAIL) phone number on signs as you depart the traffic mangement on each carrigeway. Give them a call, they have to respond in a certain time (not sure what that is at the moment), but they will have to respond to a phone enquiry within, say, 48 hours and an e mail enquiry will be a longer timeframe to respond (weeks I think).

All traffic management throughout the UK should be removed for the holiday periods and Bank Holidays as well, whatever that time period has been set at by the HA.
