Daewoo Matiz 2003 - EGR valve - kookie

I live in Spain and have a daewoo Matiz which is 11'years old. The engine management warning light gives me the code relevant to a blocked EGR valve, which I have had cleaned but the light is now back on, 3 weeks later.

I have been advised to 'block it off' so that the warning light will not come back on again, clean it again, or fit a new one which is a bit expensive considering the age of the car. I am also told it will do no harm to carry on driving. So, why don't I just carry on running it and get it cleaned just before the next MOT?

Ideas please!

The problem with running it with an EML on is you won't know if another fault crops up.

I'd be tempted to block the EGR.
