Audi A6 3.0 TDI - Inlet manifold problem - Mikey_s

Hi,

I have an 08 Audi A6 3.0 TDI quattro with 75k Miles. Last Novemeber I got an engine managment warning light on the vehicle and £750 later (£550 for the part and £200 for the fitting) a new LHS inlet manifold. I wasn't too thrilled with that, but reluctantly accepted that mechanical things can fail and coughed up for the repair. However, about a month ago I got another warning light and this time it is the RHS manifold that needs to be replaced.

I have complained to Audi that this kind of expenditure is, in my view, unreasonable, but their response is that the car is out of warranty and that this is not a 'known issue' with the vehicle.

Is anyone else aware of such issues with the V6 TDI engines? A quick google suggests that it is 'known' about, but I am pretty fed up with Audi expecting me to part with £1500 at 75k miles.

Thanks for any ideas.

Regards,

Mike

Whats wrong with the manifolds, about the only thing that can go wrong is they crack, is repair not possible?

My first port of call would be a good independent VW specialist workshops, the sort of place where they don't think their customers have acres of money trees.

"not a known Issue".If it;s not, then why have they issued a technical bulletin about this problem. On the v6 tdi engines there are two variable inlet manifold tracts ,both made of plastic. What commonly happens is that the plastic bearing material wears and allows the electronic actuators to move out of range, and so bringing on the mil light.Audi can supply replacement actuator arms, but this rarely fixes the problem.

Is that a similar problem to the BMW swirl flap issue?...bit more drastic on Beemers mind when the engine injests the blighters and is wrecked.

Can they be be blanked off as per BMW?

The idea is the same swirl flap technology, but I have not seen any injestion on audi models (yet)! The cars usually drive ok with no ill effect.hth

Audi A6 3.0 TDI - Inlet manifold problem - WhyNot

Great cars - BUT - just got rid of 2007 model (70k) after the same problem & £1,500 later. Simply don't trust the possibility of an endless series of bills. They only sell the full manifold despite the fact that a butterfly would cost a few pence

Discussed the matter with the main dealer and asked about a recall - basically Audi were aware of the issue just not interested in fixing historic problems, especially afer a number of years

However, they did change/amend the manifold on later cars which must mean they knew about it - else why bother to change it?

Always wondered how a manufacturing fault can be deemed acceptable after a passage of time - unfortunately too costly to take it up with Audi

Never again will I but a second hand Audi - have now been burnt on two Audi cars with absurd priced parts
