Volkswagen Touran - Emmissions Light - Byrne

My daughter bought a 2006 Touran in the last month. A light came on the dash came on and remained on with a notice Emmissions Garage. A mechanic cleaned something and it went off. She gave it back to the garage where she bought it for a proper check. After taking delivery again the light came back on again withe the same notice Emmissions Garage. She went to a mechanic who gave her the following.

17977 cruise control switch E45 implausible signal P1569 not a plausible signal intermittent

G28 engine rpm sensor not a plausible signal P0321

16804 catalyst system bank 1 operation below threshold P0420 short with power intermittent

We would appreciate any guidance. Thank you.

It either needs a new catalytic convertor or if you are lucky a new lambda sensor .

You say your daughter has just bought the car so its upto the vendor to pay to put it right providing she bought it at a dealers.The Lambda costs about 60ukp to buy the Cat many hundreds if you have to pay yourself and the cat proves to be the problem I would first look on ebay to get an idea of the price..
