Dacia Sandero - Dacia Sandero - Glenn 42

I notice these are growing in popularity due to their low purchase price and I visited the local dealer yesterday and had a look at a 1.2 Ambience model which had electric windows, central locking, CD player and all the safety features for £ 6800. Also the car was a lot bigger inside than my 58 plate Fiesta and seemed very well put together.

Normally I buy used cars for about £ 6000 and the one I have is well out of warranty and the bills are starting to mount at MOT and service time. Would it be worth buying a new Dacia with the Fiesta as a trade in as this would remove the worry of MOTs and repair bills for 3 years? Also does anyone else own the 1.2 model Sandero as on paper economy and peformance are acceptable for my needs?

They will probably offer a bag of washers for the Fiesta ...

I'll see what the deal is. My Fiesta has below average miles, full Ford service history and the body is in good condition, estimate I got from the supplying dealer was £ 3000.

Also another offer I had recently was a 61 plate Kia Rio 1( last of the old shape), which was selling for £ 6100 and had only done 9000 miles with 5 years warranty left. This was actually more basic than the Sandero, with no central locking and electric windows, but the main selling points would be better peformace from the 1.4 engine, the warranty and a better known name.

Ideally I'm after a car that is bigger than the Fiesta but smaller than the Focus, has four doors, can return over 40 mpg and cruise happily on the motorway.

And expect less at trade in time for the Sandero.

I see Dacia's as white goods you don't expect a trade in on your fridge do you?

Probably best to buy the 7 year warranty for a few hundred quid and run it into the ground.

I drove one - the very base spec - and was quite impressed. They go well - although they are a bit noisy at speed.

I think the previous poster is right buy it and drive it until it dies. Super cheap motoring.

Loads on Dacias being drivien great distances all over Europe.

Take one for a spin and see how you like it.

I saw one at a showground, I was quite impressed until I read about the quality control problems afflicting them.

I'd suggest you do some serious reading before deciding.

They seem tempting, but could they be latter day Ladas as some pundits are suggesting with elderly technology and a case of you get what you pay for. Might I be better trading in the Fiesta in a few months time at the garage that knows me and buying one of their nearly new cars( they specialise in Hyundai, Suzuki and used Ford)? Also the Kia dealers offer looked very tempting as well.

Mind you I was impressed today when Benfield gave me a courtesy call about the dealership and their customer care. Not many garages would do that.

I believe that Dacia have bought Lada, plenty of both her in Germany.

The renault-Nissan alliance are planning on owning around 75% of Avtovaz sometime in 2014. Dacia are just a budget brand of Renault and in Russia the Dacia Dusters are badged as Renault Dusters.

For my money, I rather spend £6800 on a 3 year old low mileage Toyota.

Dacia Sandero - Dacia Sandero - A3 A4

From what Ive read the quality control problems lie with the Indian factory building the Duster, alarmingly owners are experiancing rust after just a couple of months. This doesnt affect the Sandero as its built in Dacia's Romanian factory.

I have run a new sandero for the past six months. No problems.50 m p g. This is the future of motoring.Any car that is second in the German A D C studies and in front of Mercs is pretty good.

Anything Japanese or Korean over a dacia or a lada its not hard to work out wjat I ment collos25.

It was just put that way as a bit of light hearted humour.

Totally spot on ! You have to take your hat of to anyone who can produce a decentish Focus sized car for Sandero money, and much of the time you are probably better off doing whats stated above rather than buying a years old 'normal' car with perhaps a rather shady history.

The latest cap fiqures estimate only 50% in 3 years

That is normal for most all cars (unless they are something very special). I'd expect the Dacia to depreciate more than that.

I guess only time will tell.

Dacia Sandero - Dacia Sandero - Avant

To lose only 50 % in 3 years is quite good. Most care lose more: what may help the Dacia is that it was so cheap in the first place.

Dacia Sandero - Dacia Sandero - primeradriver

Very poor TUV reports on both the Sandero, and the Logan it's based upon.

Dacia reliability would appear to be a myth.

Dacia Sandero, Dacia Sandero Stepway, Dacia Logan MCV are all well made out of the Romanian factory.

Got to a Renault dealers and check them out for yourself.

Its an impressive price package.

You will not regret buying.These are V F M.

All said and done the people buying Dacia are pragmatic types and are not seeking to "brand" themselves with a particular makers badge - you won't see too many in Essex. They are also people who are not afraid to think outside the square and try something a bit different. Good on them.

No one denies its cracking value for money,
but in an affluent country, a majority of consumers put other factors ahead of value for money.

A friend has purchased a base Sandero, he got it at the start of September.
He paid extra to extend the warranty to 7 years as he only plans to do 6,000 miles a year as the family 2nd car.
He also paid extra for the space saver wheel and jack (think it was £95 quid) - the dealer let him have the inflatable tyre kit as well, so I presume the spare wheel must not be fitted at the factory?

He has only 2 complaints.
1. he cant get use to the colour white
2. having no central locking is proving tiresome.

Otherwise he loves it, loves the space, loves the insurance costs (or lack of them) and is impressed with the mpg desipte the engine still not bedded in.

He fitted a top of the range stereo system and speakers with ease as the wiring looms are already in place.

A snag I noticed was you had to go right to the top of the range to get air-con, thus putting them in the same price range as the major manufacturers.

They don't even list A/C as an optional extra.
