Sudden rattle in Punto - Simon4

Bought a Punto 50,000 miles - drove beautifully when tested it. Dealer changed timing belt, serviced and MOTd it. Ran really nicely for 300mls then engine suddenly developed a gentle knocking when you're moving, but which stops when you use the accelerator. Think its dangerous? Regards Simon

Maybe Mark could move your post to the tech forum for you, as you might have better luck with an answer there.

In the meantime, it sounds very much like the cambelt has slackened and needs retightening. Is the noise worse when the engine is cold?

Thanks Dave - oddly enough we didn't notice the noise until the temperature dropped quite sharply a couple of days ago. Back to the dealer we shall go. Regards.
