Are there any quiet sports tyres you could recommend?

This may sound like an odd question. I have just taken my 2003 Porsche 996 Turbo off SORN for summer. The wheels are standard Michelin Pilot Sport (18-inch) but the tyres generate a huge amount of road noise. There's grip to spare from the vehicle and it's 4 wheel drive. Is there a tyre that would be suitable and make motorway tyres a bit more acceptable?

You haven't given me enough info to offer any specific tyres, I'd need to know the actual size. However, Black Circles and Kwik-Fit both allow you to put your tyre size (width, aspect ratio and diameter) in on their website — so it's worth going on there and seeing what comes up. Both sites have customer ratings on their tyres, so you can see how well they perform for other people who've bought them - as well as a noise, wet grip and fuel economy rating. I recommend trying to find a tyre under 70dB.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 and Michelin Primacy 4 are fairly quiet, but the noise levels are tested externally (outside of the car) so the noise (or lack thereof) you hear in the cabin will be affected by tyre pressures, road surface, noise dampening within the car etc. With that said, decibel levels are measured on a logarithmic scale. This means that an increase of just a few decibels represents a big difference in noise levels.
