Block and tackle

These days, motorways seem to be full of people creating mobile roadblocks by selfishly cruising in lane 2 of motorways or pulling out much too early to pass slower traffic. They create logjams of vehicles who jostle into lane 3 to pass them. I would be interested to hear from these lane hoggers to understand how they justify their behaviour on the grounds of safety or are they just unobservant. Traffic would flow much more freely if people positioned their vehicles as the Highway Code dictates. If they were not so unpredictable I would be suggesting allowing overtaking in all lanes. Why are the police /traffic assistance offices unwilling to pull them over, have a word or prosecute them for improper positioning?

Don't I know it. I did 630 miles on Sunday. But, of course, members of CLOG (Centre Lane Owners Group) tend to be private leisure drivers, not business drivers. The Highways Agency has tried education: "Keep left unless overtaking" on the matrix signs, but stupidity reigns supreme. You can, of course, flash a warning and pass them on the left if you are already in the leftmost lane. It is safer to do that than come out all the way to drive around them.
