I protected my no claims bonus but after an accident my insurance has gone up - is this right?

I have nine years no claims discount on my policy. I have always paid for a protected no-claims. I had an accident in October and now need to renew my insurance. My existing insurer has put my policy price up considerably, so is my no claims discount, protected as it was? Can I transfer it?

Yes. Your nine years no claims is protected but your 'protected no claims insurance policy' is not as that is a service provided by your current insurer and not transferable. You still have nine years no claims bonus to take across to another insurer. But you will have to declare you have had a claim. Should you wish to protect your no claims, you will have to pay the extra again.
