Is insurance on automatic cars more expensive than manual? If so, why?

It depends on the vehicle, though there is a higher propensity for people to press the accelerator instead of the brake when manoeuvring. This apparently happens a lot, which means they are a higher risk to insure than a manual. Whether that plays out in real life is specific to the vehicle being insured.
