My Ford Mondeo failed its MoT on anti-roll bar bushes. How should I repair this?

My old workhorse Ford Mondeo estate failed the MOT on front anti-roll bar bushes. I got her on the ramps this evening to have a look and I noted that the bar will move side to side through a good six inches, only hindered by the drop link limits. Should there be shoulders on the bar each side of the mounts or is this normal? Will the bush renewal clamp out this movement or will I need to weld a washer on each side, or is this movement in fact acceptable?

We are not sure why you think you need to weld on something additional when it wasn't there before. We would suggest that if the car failed because of anti-roll bushes, then that is all you should replace.
