Can you suggest a reliable and economical little car?

I am looking for a reliable and economical little car.

So far the Citroen C1 looks good, it's small, has a good mpg and seems to be good value for money.

The only thing is that I have to do a fair bit of driving - I'm at university and as a result I do a trip from gloucestershire to norfolk about 3 times a year (if not more) as well as the day to day trips. Approx 10,000-15,000 miles a year.

Do you think that the Citroen C1 (2010 onwards) would be able to manage this level of driving, or is it only built for being a city car?

If it is only meant to be a city car, what would you recommend as a reliable and economical little car that would be able to cope with a mileage of about 10,000-15,000 miles a year?

Thank you very much for your help.

FIAT 500 1.2s are good on the motorway because they are fairly high geared at around 23mph per 1,000rpm and they have excellent, big front seats (which is why there's not much room in the back). Just don't expect sparkling performance.
