What winter tyres should I get for my Skoda Octavia vRS Estate?

I am planning a 2 day trip to Germany soon. My Octavia vRS Estate has 19-inch alloy wheels, but I will need a set of winter/snow tyres for this trip. What size tyres should I get and on what size rims?

Unwise and expensive to fit full 19-inch cold weather tyres. Better to buy a set of 17-inch rims and fit them with 225/45 R 17 94 W XL Michelin Cross Climates. Michelin also does them in 205/55 R 16 94 V XL, but 16-inch wheels might not fit around your front brakes. And they do them in 225/40 R 18 92 Y, but 40 profile on 18s will not work as well as 45 profile on 17s.
