Buying a family car for low mileage driving - Kia Niro or Toyota Prius?

I drive about 8000 to 11,000 miles per year and want a reliable and high MPG car, priced around £25k. Majority of the travel is less than three miles, occasionally about 17 miles and two or three times in a year over 100 miles. Based on my needs I narrowed my choices to the Toyota Prius and Kia Niro. The question is which is better for my needs as a family car, or is there any other car which I missed?

Both good, but the car you missed is the new Toyota C-HR that shares the Prius hybrid running gear: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/toyota/toyota-c-hr.../ So does the Auris HSD and £25k also buys a front-wheel drive RAV4 2.5 hybrid.
