Problem with used car after just a week - can I claim on the warranty?
I bought a second-hand Volkswagen Golf with full service history for £3445, I have only had the car for a week and done less than 20 miles in it. The problem is the clutch it makes a grinding noise when disengaged and and sat idle. The speed pick up when driving it is slow.
The warranty says 3 months gearbox and engine? Does the dealer I bought the car of legally have to fix the clutch please? I am willing to supply the clutch if he fits it or am i being to soft its his problem to fix.

It isn't broken. It only makes a noise. So the dealer is not liable. But he is directly liable (not the warranty insurer) for any fault present or developing on the car on the date of sale for 6 months from the date of sale. So write him a letter telling him you are worried that the noise indicates a fault with the car from the date of sale and send it by post office special delivery, then keep a copy and staple the certificate of posting to it so it becomes a matter of record. That is your guarantee for 6 months.
