Why does my 75hp Citroen Berlingo 1.6HDI feel more powerful than my 75hp Renault Clio?

I've just replaced a 1998 1.4 Renault Clio which had 75HP with a 2006 Citroen Berlingo 1.6HDI, that is also listed as having 75HP. The Berlingo is in a different league in terms of acceleration, compared to my old Clio. First, second and third gears pull very strongly and feels more powerful than only 75HP, despite being bigger and heavier. Needless to say, pulling my trailer will be even easier than I first hoped. Is it possible that my documents are incorrect and the engine is the 92HP version? Or maybe that the more powerful engine was specified when new and the documents not updated? I haven't driven the 92HP version to be able to compare.

That's because it develops its maximum torque of a lot more than the 1.4 petrol engine at 1750rpm, so what you are feeling is torque rather than power. But if the engine has an intercooler then it might be the 93PS version.
