Are Nissan Navaras prone to engine failures?

I'm thinking of getting a Nissan Navara, but I'm getting bad reports on them regarding engine failure. I'm looking at around an 04 or 06 reg. I would like your opinion please.

D22s were bad. Current shape D40s are okay, but better to buy an earlier one without a diesel particulate filter than a later one with a DPF. The D22 was revived as a cut price Navara line running below the D40. Details in car-by-car reviews.
