Private Parking Notice

Please could you give me some advice as I received a Parking charge yesterday when parked on a road to a small industrial estate. I have parked here for more that 20yrs and never had any problem. At the beginning of the road there are double yellow lines on one side that end approximately 30mtrs up. I parked at the kerb well beyond these lines. If this is private property, how can there be double yellow lines. The notices were displayed opposite and referred to "Land". They were displayed on a metal fence on the other side of the road that belongs to Network Rail but the industrial estate is on separate land. The charge is £100 (£60 if paid within 14 days) for a period of 4 hours. I have taken photographs.

If it's private land it can have its own private road system and you are bound by whatever restrictions the landlord's agent impose on parking there as long as these are properly posted. These were ratified by the Appeal Court in April, but that case has now gone to the Supreme Court and we are awaiting a ruling from the Law Lords. If you were ticketed on a public road then this was fraud.
