Hiring a car abroad
We are shortly going on holiday to Austria. Although mainly walking we may wish to hire a car for a day or so. I remember something about extra things you need to do with DVLA now. Do I have to sort it out before we travel or can we get it all done at the time of hire in Austria?

You have to go to www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence and input your driving licence number and your national insurance number. You then get a code you can give to the hirer to access your licence details for 72 hours, or you can print out a page that also lasts for 72 hours. In your case, if you don't hire a car within 72 hours you have to go through the whole ridiculous process again.
