Is there a known DMF fault with the 2010 BMW E90 3 Series?

Are you aware of any developing problems involving dual mass flywheels on the 2010 Efficient Dynamics BMW E90 320D SE range? I've recently had a problem diagnosed as the DMF and have been advised that the replacement part is out of stock in UK, is also unavailable from Germany and is unlikely to be available for up to four weeks. I've been told to drive the car by the dealership and that the loud 'clunking' noise on start up is not detrimental to the mechanics of the vehicle, and will not cause any damage.

The starter ring is on the outer of the dual mass flywheels.
