Faulty gearbox has put me off Nissan Note - should I get rid of it?

I bought a Nissan Note 1.2 petrol manual for my wife six months ago with 1500 miles on the clock. Having now done 7000 miles a ticking noise developed when taking my foot off the throttle. After some pressure from me Nissan eventually decided it needs a new gear box. I've since found out its a Renault gearbox. I originally bought the car thinking I was getting Japanese precision.
This has now put me right off the car although my wife liked it. Do you think I should keep it when it's repaired. If not what other small car would you recommend?

Why did you think that? The Nissan/Renault Alliance has been in place for at least 10 years. And anyway, Notes are built in Sunderland. I think Notes and Micras are underpowered and that the Nissan derived 1.2DID-S 3-cylinder engine just doesn't work as well as the Renault derived 1.2DIG-T 4-cylinder. But once the car is fixed you'll lose a bundle of cash if you sell it, so might as well soldier on.
