How can I remove the stale smoke smell from my car?

I'm considering buying a three year old Volkswagen Passat CC; however, the car interior smells of stale smoke. The dealer says they will get rid of any smells using what I think he called an ‘air con bomb’. Will this work or should I do something else?

It might work, but the effect might be temporary, so I cannot categorically guarantee that it will remove the smells entirely. I once took a p/x Polo from a lady who was a smoker and used Chanel No 5 to mask the smell.
